How can I prevent tartar formation on my dog's teeth?

After your dog's teeth have been professionally cleaned, we would like to recommend a few steps which will help to reduce the process of plaque and tartar build up.

Teeth Brushing
Brushing the teeth is an effective means of removing plaque before it turns into tartar. We recommend the use of a toothpaste made especially for dogs. This needs to be done at least twice weekly (preferably daily), finger brushes are made that make this task easier.

One way of getting your dog used to brushing the teeth is to dip the toothbrush initially in his dinner. Brush only the outside (buccal) surface of the teeth.

Dental Toys
The KONG Dental rubber dog toy is designed for cleaning teeth and gums while giving an appropriate chewing outlet and supporting a dogs instinctual needs.

The kong dental toy has grooves that help clean teeth, you can also stuff the inside of the grooves with your dogs favourite treats for added enjoyment.

Oxyfresh

Oxyfresh helps eliminate bad pet breath and helps reduce the build up of plaque and tartar formation.Just add One capful to 1 litre of water and use every time you refill your pets' water bowl.

These options can be combined to improve oral health and delay the re-occurrence of dental disease.

Check your pets mouth regularly and if smelly breath, staining, or red gums are present seek treatment.
