A day in surgery
At 8.30am one of our nurses will admit your pet, checking all contact details. It is here that you will be offered an optional blood test Pre-Anaesthetic Profile / Pre-Anaesthetic Profile Plus for your pet. Dependent on your pets surgery, the vet may have already advised that blood testing is essential allowing them to make a a more informed decision regarding adjustments to your pets anaesthetic protocols.

Who will be looking after my pet?
After all the paperwork is done, you will meet our kennel nurse for the day. The kennel nurse will make sure that your pet is comfortable before and after surgery which reassures your pet to see a familiar face when they wake up. As required, the nurse will take blood tests and help prepare for surgery.

Once settled in, the vet (who is looking after your pets surgery) will give them a pre-med (mild sedative).

What happens during Surgery?
Your pet is introduced to the ops nurse and taken into the prep room were he will be anaesthetised by the vet and prepared by the ops nurse. The surgery site will be clipped and scrubbed. Dependent of the surgery a 2nd nurse will be required to assist.

The ops nurse aids the vet during anaesthetic monitoring your pets heart rate, breathing and oxygen levels - very similar to a hospital. With the help of the latest technology a pulse oximeter and ECG enables the vet to have immediate visual look at your pets vital signs.

After surgery
After surgery, your pet will be carried back back to a soft bed in the kennels and carefully monitored by the kennel nurse.

When can I pick my pet up?
Depending on what time your pets operation begins, you can contact us on (02) 4945 9044 around 2pm to see if your pet is awake. Once steady on their feet (dependent on each individual animal and anaesthetic used) you will be advised on a time for them to be taken home.

When I get home
After your pet is discharged, you will be advised on the appropriate at home care discussing exercise, diet and suture removal. You may at any time contact us for any queries.
